SO, WHAT EXACTLY DO I DO?

In short: I help people make better colour decisions.

That might mean developing a colour palette for an architectural project, figuring out why something isn’t working, or deciding whether that particular shade of green really is the right one for an exhibition.

Sometimes the answer is yes.

Sometimes it very much isn’t.

I work with architects, designers, museums, galleries and exhibition teams, bringing an independent colour perspective into the design process.

01 — ARCHITECTURE & INTERIORS

WHEN YOU KNOW SOMETHING ISN’T QUITE RIGHT — BUT CAN’T PUT YOUR FINGER ON IT.

Colour decisions can become surprisingly complicated.

The architecture is there. The materials have been chosen. The lighting has been considered. Then you start looking at colours and suddenly there are twenty samples on the table.

I help make sense of them.

I can work with you to:

  • develop an overall colour direction

  • create or refine a palette

  • assess colours alongside materials and finishes

  • consider how natural and artificial light will affect them

  • review proposed colour schemes

  • resolve difficult colour decisions

  • select final colours and finishes

I don’t come in to redesign your project.

I come in to help get the colour right.

02 — CULTURAL & EXHIBITION SPACES

THE WALL IS NOT JUST THE WALL.

In an exhibition, wall colour can be surprisingly important.

It can change how an artwork is perceived, affect the relationship between objects and influence the atmosphere of the entire space.

It can also get in the way.

I work with museums, galleries, exhibition designers and scenography teams to develop and review colour in relation to the exhibition, the architecture, the lighting and the works themselves.

This can include:

  • developing an exhibition colour direction

  • creating and refining wall colour palettes

  • reviewing proposed colours

  • assessing colours alongside artworks and objects

  • considering architecture and natural or artificial light

  • advising on paint colour and finish

  • reviewing colour decisions during exhibition development

The objective isn’t to make the walls interesting.

It’s to make the exhibition work.

03 — COLOUR REVIEW

SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED SOMEONE TO SAY WHAT THEY THINK.

You already have a palette.

You just aren’t sure about it.

Or everyone has been looking at the same samples for so long that nobody can see them anymore.

That’s where a colour review can be useful.

I can take an independent look at:

  • existing colour schemes

  • proposed palettes

  • colour and material combinations

  • exhibition colour choices

  • specific colour or finish decisions

Sometimes one conversation is enough.

Sometimes it opens up a bigger question.

Either way, the aim is to leave you with more clarity than you had when we started.

HOW I WORK

I can join a project early, when the overall colour direction is being considered.

I can come in during design development, when colours need to be tested against architecture, materials and light.

Or I can be brought in towards the end, when a few stubborn decisions still need to be made.

There is no fixed formula.

The amount of input depends on the project and what you need.

What I bring is an independent eye, a lot of questions and a willingness to say when I think something isn’t working.

And then to keep looking until we find a better answer.
